Apple has today announced at WWDC that a standalone Apple Games app is coming to iPhone, iPad and MacOS.
On iPhone and iPad, the Apple Games app will bring together all of the games from Apple Arcade, helping with discovery and it’ll also being your friends list into the app as well so that you can play games and challenge friends all in one place. This will be available at the launch of iOS 26 and iPad OS 26 which will release later this year.
The bigger deal is over on the Mac side, where macOS Tahoe 26 will also introduce the Apple Games app which will once again bring games from Apple Arcade and other AAA games as well as your friends in one place but will also introduce the Game Overlay, which will show over the top of the games when pulled out.
This will allow you to adjust system settings on the fly, chat with friends, manage Bluetooth devices and also turn on Low Power mode which extends gaming sessions and maximises battery life, without leaving your full-screen app.
Apple has also confirmed that improvements are coming to MetalFX Upscaling which will be useful for a bunch of games still coming to MacOS later this year including: Cyberpunk 2077, Cronos: The New Dawn, Architect: Land of Exiles, Lies of P: Overture, HITMAN World of Assassination, EVE Frontier, Where Winds Meet, and more.
