Apple has today announced that Apple Watch owners in Australia can now access Sleep Apnea detection.
As of today, you can update your phone, tap set up Sleep Apnea notifications in the health app, confirm your date of birth and you’ll then have to wear your Apple Watch to sleep for 10 days across a 30 day period, and your Apple Watch will let you know if you have mild (or worse) sleep breathing disturbances which could result in Sleep Apnea.
To detect this, the Apple Watch uses the accelerometer to monitor small movements that are associated with interruptions in normal respiratory patterns. This will be analysed every 30 days, and will let you know if there are signs of moderate to sleep disturbance.
The health app will then provide you with a PDF with three months of breathing disturbance data along with times so that you can chat to your health provider for a proper assessment.
This new feature is supported on the Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
