ASUS lifted the lid on the ASUS ROG Ally X this morning and whilst it isn’t a successor to the original, it’s rather an improved model that will hopefully make the experience a lot better. The tagline for the new model is ‘Extra Extend Expand’.
The new device hasn’t been fully revealed yet (we’re expecting that at Computex at the start of June which we’ll be at), but we do have our first details about the device.
The ROG Ally X will be black, but the biggest changes come in the way of battery life which is said to be 30-40% better and will also make the device heavier.
The device will also come with increased memory, but ASUS wouldn’t talk specifics. Given it has 16GB currently, we might see this doubled which should be more than enough for AAA games in the near future.
It’s also been confirmed that it will have a longer M.2 2280 SSD slot which will make SSDs a lot cheaper for the device.
There will also be changes to the likes of the grip, D-Pad, joysticks and triggers, but we haven’t seen the device yet, so no idea what that looks like until full reveal.
Whilst ASUS didn’y talk about things such as the processor or the display, it seems as though it’ll keep that same Z1 Extreme Chip and it also seems as though the 7-inch 1080p 120hz LCD display will also be the same one, so no OLED upgrade unfortunately.
Another thing that is getting upgraded is Armory Crate SE 1.5 which will add a number of software improvements as well.
