Cyberpunk 2077 Runs Like An Absolute Dream On The Mac

Powerful!

I’ve been banging on about how viable AAA gaming is on the Mac (and iPhone/iPad to a lesser extent) for some time now, but this has never been truer than with one of the hardest games to run in Cyberpunk 2077 hitting the platform. It was announced some time ago, but as of last week, you can finally play Cyberpunk 2077 on the Mac.

You can buy it from the Mac App Store, Steam, or GOG and if you already own the game on one of the latter platforms for PC, you can download the game for Mac straight away. and just like it does on every other platform, it has total cross-save compatibility, so if you’ve been playing the game on consoles, the Switch 2 or PC, your save will be right there for you on Mac.

Something that CD Projekt Red has done incredibly well on the Mac is create a ‘For You Mac’ preset which basically will change all of the settings based to which Apple Silicon chip you’re using (M1/16GB of memory is the minimum).

I was playing on the M4 Max which means that I was playing at 1440P with 60 FPS thanks to MetalFX upscaling at ultra settings, and it was honestly a breeze to setup, get running and get gaming.

Just like you can on PC, you can still change any and all settings if you’re wanting to tinker beyond using the presets. You can absolutely turn on path tracing or set ray-tracing to ultra and whilst they not provide the most ultimate performance (before MetalFX Frame Interpolation drops later this year with Mac to add even more frames).

The entire experience playing on M4 Max is honestly quite incredible. This isn’t a cheap laptop by any stretch of the imagination, but the MacBook Pro is substantially smaller and lighter than any gaming laptop that I’ve used, so the fact that I can run the game with ultra settings with ray-tracing and still hit 60 FPS is extremely impressive, and paired with the fact that cross-saves do exist, it’s a no brainer if you own a Mac.

There’s Mac exclusive features including the ability to take advantage of spatial head tracking when using AirPods, and the game has full Magic Mouse and Trackpad support as well, so you can use what you already have (if you aren’t a hardcore gamer) to jump into the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

Every time a big game comes to Mac I get more and more excited, as someone who always grew up using a MacBook and not getting to play a lot of AAA games on my computer, it’s so refreshing to see more and more games coming to the platform and running like an absolute dream.
