The Dyson Solarcycle Morph Desk Light Is A Smart Lamp That Follows The Sun

Dyson, yes, the Dyson behind vacuums, air-purifiers and those headphones have announced an entry into a new category, lighting.

The Dyson Solarcycle Morph Desk Light looks very different to other desk lamps on the market, and comes with a much, much heftier cost, but also sounds quite useful.

It’s out today in white/silver and will cost $899 AUD. It can be pre-order from Dyson’s website HERE. There is also a floor lamp variation releasing in other parts of the world, but not in Australia yet.

The Solacycle Morph Desk Light can be pivoted in a way that it provides indirect light, task lighting, feature lighting or ambient lighting, and can be set to track daylight with its 3 warm and 3 cool LEDs. It will follow the lighting of the day to adjust colour temperature and brightness in relation to local daylight depending on the location.

It can also be personalised further using the MyDyson app, in order to customise the lighting output anywhere between 2,700K to 1,800K if you’re not wanting to follow Dyson’s time of day algorithms. It’s said that it also takes into account age of the user in order to provide different light outputs.

DYSON SOLARCYCLE MORPH DESK LIGHT MODES:

  • Indirect light: The intelligent optical head smoothly rotates 360° to bounce light off walls, floors and ceilings.
  • Task light: Focused, powerful light for work, hobbies, make-up application and intricate tasks. Helps improve visual acuity by emitting a pool of high-intensity light. A CRI (colour rendering index) of 90 or above means colours displayed are very close to daylight quality.
  • Feature light: Creates dramatic effects, highlighting art, colours and decorative features. 3-Point Revolve motion enables precise positioning.
  • Ambient light: The stem lights up to create a comforting, orange glow. For evening relaxation with reduced blue light.
