Google’s Search AI Overviews Are Rolling Out In Australia

Google Australia has today revealed that its AI Overviews are now rolling out on Google Search in Australia.

These aim to provide an AI-generated snapshot about a topic or question along with key information and relevant links at the top of your Google search, whether it be travel tips or an answer to a simple question.

Some examples given by Google that are Australian specific are around the Southern Lights, a Watermelon as well as an example about the Great Barrier Reef.

These display at the top of the search on desktop and mobile with relevant links on the right hand side (on Desktop at least). There’s been some pretty hilarious examples following the US launch in May, but I feel like that’s been ironed out since then so it’ll be interesting to see how that fares in Australia.

Similarly, Google says that it has noticed an increase in click to publishers (like us) for supporting websites, which is definitely important, so we’ll obviously be able to see how that plays out.

At the time of writing, AI Overviews aren’t live for me yet, but it shouldn’t be too long before we start seeing them pop-up.
