Cheeky devils Dbrand sent tech influences such as Linus Tech Tips and Dave 2D the PS5 Slim so that they could compare it against the original PS5 with its Darkplates 2.0 (available here) that already shaved quite a bit off the top.
We get a bunch of proper looks at the PS5 Slim including comparisons with the original PS5, which we can now see is quite a lot bigger than the new PS5, more-so in depth and weight which have both seen significant drops, but also width and height which has also seen a big drop.
We also get our first look at the disc drive, which pulls off extremely easily. It doesn’t appear to have any physical connection, instead just pulling out of the unit (below one of the face plates).
There’s also a change to the front USB ports with the Slim unit featuring two USB-C ports on the front, and still the two USB-A ports on the back, so technically we’ve gained a USB-C port and lost a USB-A port. The eject button has also moved to where the disc gets inserted.
At this stage, we still don’t have a release date for the PS5 Slim. It drops in the US and other markets starting next week, so we’d expect to hopefully see it come to Australia before Christmas or early next year.
It’s worth mentioning that Dbrand has also also announced plates for the PS5 Slim which should shave even more off the top of the unit, and you can register interest for that HERE.
