We’ve been waiting for it and Apple finally delivered. In an 18 minute unannounced virtual briefing, Apple announced new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.
The new M2 Pro model will launch with a 12-core CPU, up to 19-core GPU and up to 32GB of unified memory, with the M2 Max model featuring up to 38 cores of GPU power and up to 96GB of unified memory.
The battery life of both models have gone up with the M2 Max now having the best battery life of any MacBook device. The 14″ model can now last 18 hours with video or 12 hours with browsing whilst the 16″ can get a whopping 22 hours with video and 15 hours of wireless web browsing.
Obviously, performance has been improved even from the insane performance of the M1 Pro and M1 Max. Apple gave a few stats about the M2 Pro, the most interesting being Photoshop being able to process images 40% faster than the M1 Por and up to 80% faster than an Intel Core i9 processor.
As far as other improvements go, there’s now Wi-Fi 6E support and HDMI 2.1 that supports 8K displays up to 60Hz and 4K displays up to 240Hz.
Both models are launching in February 3rd with pre-orders available now.
