Sony has just revealed the rumoured new slimmer PS5 model with a detachable disc drive.
The new model has had its volume reduced by more than 30% and weight by 18% and 24% respectively compared to the previous models. The faceplates will be broken up into four sections with the top portions sporting a glossy look and the bottom section remaining matte.
The new PS5 will be available to purchase in the same digital and disc offerings, but the one big change with this model is that if you buy the digital edition, you can now attach a disc drive later which can be purchased separately for $80 USD (~$124 AUD).
The new slimmer PS5 will be launching in November in the US, Europe, UK and Japan with other territories to roll out later, so we’re not sure if Australia is included in this initial roll-out, but will keep you posted when we have more information. Sony says that this is replacing the current unit which will be phased out as stock sells out.
As far as price goes for the new console, the disc edition will cost the same in the US, but the digital edition is getting a $50 US (~$77 AUD) increase. There’s also a brand new vertical stand that’s been announced and will be compatible with all PS5 models and Sony says that new PS5 console covers will release in early 2024 including an all-matte black colour as well as Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver variations.
