The New PlayStation Portal System Update Has Some Helpful Improvements

PlayStation has gone on the record to say that the PlayStation Portal has performed well above it’s expectations, and it’s today detailed the latest improvements that will come to the device tomorrow.

The largest without doubt is the ability to connect to public Wi-Fi networks, which was a big issue at launch. With this update, you’ll now be able to connect to public Wi-Fi networks such as hotel networks that often have a secondary pop-up screen. This will allow you to scan your Portal with a QR code and then complete the validation steps on your mobile device.

Other improvements include changes to the touchpad areas, which will show effects when using the touch pad. These were fairly static before, but will now show a little animation to show that you have in-fact clicked in.

Another minor improvement is the fact that you can now select to show the battery percentage in the status bar in the top right corner of the screen.

Interestingly, Sony has released data saying that 60% of PlayStation Portal owners are using remote play for the first time, which shows that the device is definitely working to expose people to this feature that has existed for well over a decade on PlayStation consoles. Hopefully more improvements are on the way.
