Sanity was an Australia icon in the 90s and 2000s with over 150 stores across Australia selling music CDs, DVDs and even video games in pretty much every Australian shopping centre, but as the rise of streaming happened, the retailer closed several metro stores across Australia.
What was left was around 50 stores mostly in regional areas across Australia and a few in major shopping centres within Queenslands, ACT, South Australia and Tasmania. However, Sanity has today announced that all of its remaining physical stores will close by the end of April.
The company will continue to operate online and will honour all gift cards at its online store.
“With our customers shifting to digital for their visual and music content consumption, and with diminishing physical content available to sell to our customer, it has made it impossible to continue with our physical stores,” owner Ray Itaoui said to Nine.
