ASUS has announced the ROG Ally which is a competitor to the likes of the Steam Deck or AYANEO 2, but it’s doing things a little bit differently.
What was initially announced on April 1st (but quickly confirmed to be a real product), the ASUS ROG Ally will have a 1080p/120Hz display (double the refresh rate of both the Steam Deck and AYANEO 2).
It will also have a custom AMD APU chip (the fastest one yet apparently), which ASUS claims is twice as powerful as the Steam Deck.
Much like the AYANEO devices, it’ll be running Windows 11 which means that technically any Windows game should be playable and it won’t be locked to any launcher.
The ASUS ROG Ally is also compatible with an eGPU so that you can turn it onto more of a fully fledged gaming PC for use with a larger screen.
It’s rumoured to be dropping later this year, and the prices that have leaked are actually quite decent, but what’s extremely clear at this point, is that this market is only going to become more and more saturated, but competition is a good thing.
