I got my hands-on the ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate a few weeks ago, and was absolutely blown away by some of the over-the-top features that are included in this phone.
Firstly, the display is a 6.78″ 165Hz AMOLED display, and not only is it extremely bright reaching up to 1500 nits, it’s super smooth as well going well beyond the 120hz that other flagship phones can reach.
Another thing that really impressed me is the battery life. There are two 3000mAh batteries in the device totalling 6,000 mAh which is almost twice as big as the battery in an iPhone 14 Pro for instance. There is also fast charging with 65-watt charging taking the device to 100% in just over 40 minutes.
Really though, this is just the beginning. There’s a secondary OLED display on the back of the device which can show your charging status as well as incoming calls and notifications. I wouldn’t say it’s the most useful display in the world, but if you’re wanting to flip your phone over but still get notifications, it’s useful and certainly looks super cool.
The phone also comes with an external cooler. It’s called the AeroActive Cooler 7 and adds a literally spinning fan as well as RGB to the back of your device for longer gaming sessions. The interaction with the phone is super cool, with a port opening up on the back of the phone as you connected it to let the cool air in.
The AeroActive 7 Cooler also adds four physical buttons that can be mapped to any part of the screen to easier play mobile games. It also features a subwoofer which makes the sound have a lot more bass, and also a kickstand for easier display.
If the four physical buttons weren’t enough, there’s also two touch sensitive buttons on the top left and right of the phone (when its being held in landscape mode). These work really well and are great for shooting in mobiles games such as Call of Duty. You can also swipe across them for secondary controls.
The software built into the phone is great to, with you able to control a number of gaming features and control all the included accessories as well. All of these things come together to take advantage of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.
As far as typical phone features go, there’s a 50MP main camera and a 32MP selfie camera, so you’re pretty packed out there too. Really, though, as impressive and spectacular as the ROG Phone7 Ultimate and its features are, you’d have to be a pretty serious mobile gamer to take advantage.
At $2,100 AUD, it’s not a heap more expensive than flagship phones from the likes of Apple + Samsung, and the larger battery and high-quality display in particular are absolutely fantastic, but I’d worry about the useful ness of features such as the AeroActive Cooler 7 long-term.
The ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is available exclusively at JB Hi-Fi for $2,100 AUD.
@shannongrixti The ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is the most insane phone that I’ve used. Two batteries, a back OLED screen and an external cooler?! #ASUSROG #asusrogphone7 #asusrogphone7ultimate #rogphone7 #rogphone7ultimate #phone #tech
