A month ahead of its release, a bunch of hands-on impressions for the DualSense Edge have appeared as well as an official design video from PlayStation.
This comes after The Verge’s report that the DualSense Edge will have a slightly shorter battery life than the original DualSense controller.
The PlayStation Blog detailed the FN buttons which seem like they’ll be really useful:
“These two buttons are positioned below the thumb sticks, providing easy access for a DualSense Edge controller-specific menu that pops up whenever pressed, whether in game or in system menus. These buttons make it easy to snap between profiles, adjust headset volume, game/party chat audio balance, and more. The option to quickly jump directly into the controller profile menu after a couple quick button presses is crucial, allowing you to make quick adjustments without disrupting gameplay. ”
The Verge said it was the best PS5 controller that you could buy in this price point:
“The Edge is the same size, the same shape, and has the same buttons and joysticks as far as my fingers can tell. Only now, you get two kinds of rear paddles, adjustable hair triggers, swappable stick tops (including the classic PlayStation domes), the ability to remap almost every button on the controller and adjust joystick sensitivity curves, new dedicated function keys to hot-switch profiles, and — get this — toolless quick-swap stick modules so you can replace a broken joystick in 30 seconds flat.”
IGN said their concerns had faded away:
“After spending a few hours with Sony’s DualSense Edge, my initial concerns over spending more for a luxury controller have largely disappeared. It’s a very well-designed controller with a lot of potential for people who want to customize their controls from top to bottom.”
Gamespot compared it to the Elite controller:
“Like the Elite, the controller, along with the charging cable, swappable stick caps, back buttons, and a cord lock are all packaged in a white hardshell carrying case with a hole in the back for easy charging. Overall, the DualSense Edge feels like a nice option for PlayStation owners that might have been looking at Xbox’s offerings with pro-controller envy. For $200, you’ll get a controller that has a familiar form factor, improved ergonomics, some new feature options, and a good level of customizability.”
The DualSense Edge launches in Australia on January 26th for $339.95 AUD. Most retailers appear to be out of stock but it’s available on Mighty Ape right HERE.
