It’s been a big year for portables PCs and I’ve absolutely loved how much they’ve expanded and become a part of so many people’s gaming lives, but a lot of people don’t know that they can also act as the perfect mini PC with the right dock.
Whilst the MSI Claw is fantastic on the go with its 7-inch display and huge battery life, it pairs perfectly with the MSI Nest Docking Station to go perfectly with your TV or monitor to turn it into the ultimate home gaming console or to use it as a PC.
Because the Claw runs Windows 11, it can literally act as any other PC or laptop when combined with the dock and thanks to the Intel ARC GPU it can absolutely handle everything from AAA gaming to video editing and obviously daily tasks such as emailing or web browsing are a breeze.
In terms of the dock itself, it’s super small and portable and has a mechanism that pushes inwards so that you can throw it in your bag when not in use. It has a huge amount of ports including:
- 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A Ports
- 1 x USB-C PD Port (for power)
- 1 x USB-C Port (for data)
- 1 x Ethernet Port
- 1 x HDMI 2.0 port
- 1 x USB-C port (for connecting the Claw)
For video connection, you’ll need to use HDMI which supports 4K at 60hz which matches the MSI Claw GPU perfectly. I found it really great for connecting it to my TV to play games such as Hades 2 and the Rogue Prince of Persia, both which aren’t available on consoles, as well as games such as Diablo 4 which I could then take it on the go.
The power port is rated at 100w meaning that you can charge the game console at full speed whilst also powering all of the other ports without any issues as well.
It’s super impressive how seamless it is going between handheld and how quickly the Claw then connects to an external display to transfer the video signal, and then you can use Windows to select whether it mirrors or extends the Claw display.
I highly recommend the docking station if you’re picking up the MSI Claw as it does really just expand the use cases for the device and it’s more than capable as a PC.
