Asus’ New OLED Gaming Monitor Has A Heatsink To Keep It Cool

That's hot (but also cool)

OLED monitors are absolutely the in thing for 2023. Following in the foot steps of the likes of LG and Dough, ASUS has now announced an OLED gaming monitor that likely features the same panel as those monitors, but with some key differences from a design point of view.

The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM gaming monitor has a 27″, 1440p, matte, OLED display that has a 240Hz refresh rate and a .03 millisecond response time, but it’s key difference is the fact that it has a heatsink to keep it cooler. Asus says that this will prolong its life span.

As any good gaming monitor should, it has a heap of RGB LEGs on the back of the device and a nice chunky stand that will project the Asus ROG logo onto your desk, which is an interesting design choice, but surely one that can be turned off.

Asus says that the heatsink as well as a fan that pushes air away from the monitor allows it to run roughly 5 degrees cooler than competing monitors. To be honest, I’m not really sure why this is necessary, but I think it would potentially allow the monitor to go brighter (there’s an 1,000 nits peak brightness) apparently, so it’ll allow the monitor to push harder without burning out in the long term, because in terms of peak brightness, this matches the LG OLED monitor specs that are coming this year.

We haven’t seen any of the nitty gritty confirmed in terms of exact specs, price, or release date, but we’ll let you know when we have more Australian details, and it’s safe to say at this point that if you’ve been waiting for an OLED monitor, this year might be your lear, or at the very least, the start of the OLED takeover in the monitor space.
