I checked out the ASUS ROG 8 Pro last year and was impressed with just how many over the top gaming features that it had, but the ASUS ROG 9 Pro manages to take things even further this time around.
It has a similar fantastic 6.78-inch AMOLED display that now has a refresh rate of up to 185hz which is just insane for a phone, and the brightness still goes up to 2500 nits.
My favourite ting about this phone has always been the Anime Vision display on the back which is made up of little LEDs and this has been increased to 648 dots which is practically double, including red leds, which can still be used for showing things like battery life and notifications, but it goes so much further this year.
You can now play retro games like Snake and Asteroids and Breakout right on the back LED display. Simply just flip the phone around and you can us the two sensitive touch AirTriggers on the top of the phone to play these games.
Why anyone would want to do this I’m not super sure, but there was something extremely nostalgic about playing a near perfect version of the original snake on the back of your phone without the distractions of the main display. Even if it’s not going to be something people do daily, I absolutely love how ASUS keep pushing the boundaries with this.
THE CHEAPEST PRICES:
There’s other improvements when it comes to gaming as well. Not only does the phone use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the new AeroActive Cooler X Pro that clips onto the phone’s side USB-C port has been improved as well.
The fan blades are now 12.5% larger which increases the cooling capacity by up to 29% and when it comes to sound it can boost the base by up to 123.9%.
The thing I love about the cooler is that it adds two physical buttons, so when you pair these with the two AirTriggers, you basically get a full set of triggers for games like Fortnite or Call of Duty mobile, so there really isn’t a better gaming experience.
If you’re not wanting the cooler on your phone, ASUS has also released a Chill case that can cool the back cover of the phone by up to 17% with an integrated liquid cooling system built-in. It can also re-direct the audio to the front as well.
At $2,500, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro probably isn’t going to be for everyone, but if you want the best feature-packed phone on the market that is perfect for gaming, I don’t think there’s anything better on the market, and ASUS has managed to improve on an already fantastic phone with the 9 Pro.
