The ROG XREAL R1 Glasses Are The Most High Spec Gaming Glasses Yet

During the Republic of Gamers’ CES presentation earlier this week, Republic of Gamers announced its partnership with Xreal on a pair of high-end AR gaming glasses.

The ROG Xreal R1 glasses, which can be used for video gaming, movies, or productivity, feature seamless setup and a virtual screen of up to 171 inches, made up of microOLED displays. With a staggering 240Hz refresh rate, their use case within competitive video gaming is clear.

Asus, ROG’s parent company, and Xreal shared a few of the product’s key technical features:

  • World’s first 240Hz microOLED 1080p gaming glasses, with ROG Control Dock for HDMI connectivity
  • Seamlessly connects to ROG Ally with a single USB-C cable for a big screen experience
  • World-class audio experience courtesy of Sound by Bose, which is optimised with the hardware’s form factor in mind
  • Weighing only 91 grams, the glasses aren’t likely to weigh users down or feel cumbersome
  • 57° expanded view, giving the viewpoint of taking in its 171-inch display at a sitting distance of just 4m

For those wanting to use this product for gaming, the R1 glasses connect directly to the ROG Ally via a single USB-C cable with a quick, zero setup process. They can also be utilised on phones, desktop workstations, and game consoles. Using the ROG Control Dock, which comes bundled with the glasses, users can switch between consoles with just a few easy clicks.

Through the dock, players can alternate which device gets the big-screen treatment. The dock also features two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port, giving a wealth of connection options.

There has been no official word on pricing as yet; however, it’d be safe to assume they’ll eclipse their other models in terms of localised pricing.
