I reviewed the Twelve South HiRise 3 earlier this year and called it the best 3-in-1 charger that I’ve used, but to coincide with the release of iOS 17 and the iPhone 15, Twelve South just dropped the HiRise 3 Deluxe which is a big improvement in almost every way.
From a functionality perspective, it’s still a 3-in-1 charger that allows you to charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods (or a second iPhone), but that’s pretty much where the similarities end.
Speaking of the design, it’s no longer plastic and is made out of a luxe vegan leather that feels more sturdy, looks a lit slimmer and just looks a lot nicer in your bedroom than the older version did.
THE CHEAPEST PRICE: $229.95 AUD
In terms of actual foot print on your bedside table, desk or night stand, it’s roughly the same, but because the Apple Watch portion has been moved from the top to the front of the stand (which is much better for reachability and nightstand mode), it does mean that it takes up a little bit more depth, and it also puts the iPhone much further forward, which means it isn’t sitting as close to the wall and a little less clean in my opinion.
Really though, it’s hard to complain with the tangible improvements elsewhere. All three chargers can now charge at their maximum capacity. The MagSafe charger can now charge your iPhone at the maximum 15 watts, the Apple Watch puck is now an Apple Watch fast-charger (0-80% in about 45 minutes) and the back charger is a 7.5w charger. The actual unit comes with its own international charging brick now, so there’s no guess work in making sure that you’re getting the maximum charging speeds for every item.
The MagSafe charging puck has quite a bit of flexibility. It can tilt by 35-degrees, so that you can have it straight on if you’re using it next to your bed, or maybe pointing your phone a little bit more upwards if you’re sitting it at desk. With iOS 17 comes the new StandBy feature which means you’ll want your phone displayed in landscape, so this new flexibility works perfectly.
Similarly, the Apple Watch puck can also cleverly lay flat, or be pulled upwards to take advantage of nightstand mode, or maybe you just have a certain watch band that doesn’t come apart, so needs to be upright.
There’s so many wireless chargers on the market, and 90% of the ones I’ve tested have visible downsides or a lack of flexibility that changes based on the devices that you’re using, but Twelve South has really improved the experience once again with the HiRise 3 Deluxe. It totally takes the guesswork out of charging all of your devices, and provides the most simple experience possible at the highest possible charging speeds. I can’t recommend it enough.
