Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it has acquired Audeze, a leading audio technology company and creator of high-end gaming headsets.
Sony says that it will strengthen SIE efforts to continue innovating when it comes to the audio experience of PlayStation games. It says that Audeze will continue to operate independently and develop multi-platform products whilst also benefiting from being part of the PlayStation family.
Audeze owns a number of different patents that are important in the audio space that no doubt Sony will want to take advantage of.
“Audeze is a premier brand for headphones, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience to PlayStation players,” said Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The timing of this announcement is fitting with PlayStation this week announcing the new Pulse Explore and Pulse Elite headsets which will take advantage of a new PlayStation Link audio feature that allows for low latency and lossless audio.
