BYD has officially announced the Australian release details for the much-anticipated BYD Dolphin electric car, and as expect, it’s now the cheapest Australia EV. Orders can be placed now with stock expected to arrive in September/October later this year.
The Dolphin will start at $38,890 AUD plus on-road costs when it launches in Q4 later this year. Different variations will be available that takes the price well beyond this, but as an entry point, that’s very compelling as an EV taking it below a lot of petrol cars on the market.
BYD DOLPHIN AUSTRALIAN PRICES
- BYD Dolphin Dynamic – $38,890 plus on-road costs
- BYD Dolphin Premium – $44,890 plus on-road costs
- BYD Dolphin Sport (LE) – $49,990 plus on-road costs
Differences between the Dynamic and Premium are to do with colour choices as well as maximum power (150 vs 70) and battery capacity (60 vs 44).
The Dolphin is a five-door hatchback. It features a 12.8-inch touch screen that can rotate to be in landscape or portrait orientation. It also features a large panoramic moonroof, voice-recognition and plenty of charging ports.
As far as safety features go, it features seven airbags, emergency breaking, driver fatigue monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts, lane keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control.
It’ll be interesting to see how this shakes up the Australian EV market, with it pushing prices much further down than what we’ve experienced from the likes of Tesla and other EVs on the market.
