Apple has taken to the WWDC stage to reveal iOS 17 a bunch of new iPhone features.
WHAT’S NEW IN IOS 17
A NEW STANDBY MODE
Apple confirmed that iPhone is getting a standby mode, which will showcase information on your iPhone when it’s on charge. This includes a customised clock display, or your smart home accessories, or maybe your daily schedule.
JUST SAY SIRI
Apple confirmed that you’d only now need to say Siri, with Siri now taking back-to-back requests as well without you needing to say it again.
A NEW JOURNAL APP
Apple announced a new journalling app called Journal. The app will suggest things to include in your daily journalling including music and photos to inspire you and get the journey started. Certain questions or reflections will also be put to you to get you kick started.
PERSONALISED CALL CONTACT PHOTOS
You can now add customised call screens to your incoming call screens. Just like your lock screen, you can customise image, font and a number of other things to personalise every call coming through.
When someone calls you and leaves a voicemail, your phone will transcribe the call live so that you can decide whether you need to pick it up or not. You’ll now be able to pick up the phone mid voicemail too.
A new check-in feature lets you let a family member know that you’re safe, with you able to give them a live update on battery life and reception info as well.
With FaceTime, you’ll be able to leave a video message if they don’t pick up the phone.
Stickers are now getting a more prominent feature in the messages app. You can now turn photos and live photos in your library into stickers to send within messages.
NameDrop is a new feature that will let you share your contact information (with new contact posters) wirelessly over your phone. You can also share other things like live workouts or something that you’re watching on your phone.
Apple also said that you can now just bring devices together to start sharing with the process continuing even if you move out of that short AirDrop distance.
TEXT INPUT IS GETTING OVERHAULED
Apple has said that auto correct will get a lot smarter, more personalised recommendations that are in-line and don’t get in the way of your typing. It’s said that dictation will also be more accurate as well.
