Apple has today lifted the lid off the new iPad Pro, which absolutely blows all other iPads out of the water in terms of design and power.
The iPad Pro will come in 11-inches and 13-inches and include a new tandem OLED display that uses two panels to create the Ultra Retina XDR display that supports 1,000 nits of full brightness for SDR and HDR content as well as 1,600 nits for HDR.
It’s also the thinnest Apple product to ever exist with the 11-inch model coming in at 5.3mm thick and the 13-inch model coming in at 5.1″ mm thick with both models weighing less than 500 grams. Apple has said that it is thinner than the iPad Nano.
In a move that seems somewhat shocking, Apple has also unveiled the M4 Chip which is what is powering the new iPad Pro and apparently necessary for those dual OLED panels. It offers 1.5x faster CPU performance over the M2 and means that programs such as Octane can see 4x faster performance.
As far as cameras go, there’s a 12MP back camera and Apple also showed off a new document scanning technology that gets rid of shadows. The front camera on the front is a new 12MP ultrawide camera that is now in the landscape orientation for FaceTime calls as well.
Apple also revealed a new Magic Keyboard which is thinner and lighter and available in the same two colours that the new iPad Pro is. It now has a full row of function keys as well as haptic feedback in the trackpad which should make for better reliability.
The new Apple Pencil Pro was also revealed and brings some huge changes to the device. It has a new sensor in the barrel that can be squeezed to bring up a tool palette, it has a gyroscope to recognise tilting of the pencil and it also has haptics to provide feedback based on the actions performed.
