The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s Camera System Pushes The Boundaries With Innovative Features

100x zoom!

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra released last month, and whilst the phone looks quite similar to that of the S22 Ultra on the outside, it was very clear since its announcement that the internals are quite different, starting with the camera system.

Firstly, you can now snap 200MP photos with the wide-angle camera, which will be overkill for most people, but if you’re somebody that wants to take advantage of that, you’ll get an insane amount of detail to play around with (although it comes with a big file size).

It was the 100x zoom that I was very eager to try out, and whilst it didn’t return the most picture perfect images (to be expected at 100x zoom) it was much better than expected and a lot of fun to use.

I got my husband and our two sausage dogs to go down to the other end of an extremely long park (maybe 200-300 metres) and could impressively get a close-up of my sausage dog Billie, which can be seen in the below TikTok.

Similarly, sitting at my dinner table, I was able to get in really close to a satellite dish on a house in the next street with pretty decent clarity, compared to my iPhone 14 Pro.

100x zoom (S23 Ultra) vs 3x zoom (14 Pro)

The 10x optical zoom still seems to be the sweet spot though, pushing well ahead of the 3x optical zoom on my iPhone 14 Pro and still returning really decent results.

Another thing that I was really impressed with is the super steady video feature which basically locks in the camera, to do a really great job of taking out any movement or shakiness in the camera. Again, using my sausage dogs as an example, I was able to shake my phone around pretty violently (more so than I would be in any situation) and it was giving really impressive results.

All-in-all, I really love to see Samsung pushing the boundaries when it comes to camera technology, and whilst it might not all be features that will get used daily, it’s great to see features still being added.
