It goes without saying that LG has pretty much dominated the OLED department over the last 3-4 years, but it looks like they’ve finally got some competition with Samsung announcing that the brand new Samsung S95B OLED TV is out in Australia today.
The S95B is available at The Good Guys for $3,495 (55″) and $4,495 (65″) although its RRP in Australia is actually $4,079 (55″) and $5,249 (65″). This puts it at about the same price as the LG C2 (maybe a little bit over) but given it uses the more advanced QD-OLED technology that the Sony A95K does and comes in at nearly $1,000 less, it seems to be a very competitive price.
QD-OLED technology is supposed to take OLED to a whole new level with brighter colours thanks to the use of a blue OLED panel instead of a white one.
The reviews overseas for the Samsung S95B OLED so far have been good. RTINGS gave it a 9.1/10 and said: “The Samsung S95B TV is amazing for watching sports in a bright room. It has good peak brightness and incredible reflection handling, so it can easily overcome glare in a bright room. Unfortunately, if you’re in a room with any amount of ambient light blacks appear raised, and there’s a pink tint to the screen. It also has an exceptional viewing angle, which is great if you have a wide seating arrangement, as the image remains accurate even from the sides. It has a quick response time, so motion looks clear, and it has excellent gray uniformity, with very little distracting dirty screen effect.”
We recently went hands on with Samsung’s 2022 TV range including the QN95B and the Frame 2022 edition and you can find all of our thoughts about those TVs HERE. We’ll hopefully be going eyes on with the S95B OLED soon and we’ll let you know our thoughts about it as soon as we see it in the flesh.
