UPDATE: The LEGO PlayStation 1 has been officially revealed and it will be true to scale of the original console. It will in-fact include 1911 pieces and two dioramas (Ape Escape and Gran Turismo) and will release on October 4th. It’s $279 AUD and you can pre-order it from LEGO HERE.
Here’s what LEGO had to say about it:
“To bring this set to life, we collaborated closely with LEGO designers to craft a building experience that is inspired by PlayStation’s origins. When building the set, players will notice hidden details from PlayStation’s history and references to two iconic games that launched on the original PlayStation console, Ape Escape and Gran Turismo. Each diorama features customizable elements – Gran Turismo includes a miniature track complete with scaled down cars, while the Ape Escape diorama has a nostalgic island scene with a swappable blue or red light on the monkey’s helmet. The interactive set has functional mechanisms for the console’s Power and Open buttons, a controller that can plug into the console, and the ability to remove both game dioramas so they can be displayed separately.”
ORIGINAL STORY: It’s been rumoured for months, but we finally have our first look at the LEGO PlayStation set and we now know that it will be releasing on October 1st.
As expected, the 1911 piece set includes a buildable PS1 console that has a disc tray that opens up complete with an original controller and there will also seemingly be two dioramas with one based on Gran Turismo and the other based on Ape Escape. It’s said that those pre-order will get an Astro Bot gift with purchase set as well.
