Nintendo Switch Dock

An Official Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Charging Stand Has Been Revealed Prompting Further Switch 2 Speculation

That makes sense

Nintendo announced a new piece of hardware today and it was absolutely not the one that people were hoping for or expecting, but it could be a little hint about the Nintendo Switch 2.

It’s an official Nintendo Switch Joy-Con charging dock, which is a little odd given the Switch has been out for over 7 years and is heading towards the end of its life cycle.

This stand allows you to charge either two Joy-Con or two NES controllers in either a docked position, or you can also remove the connector component to lay it flat and charge it that way.

Now, let me speculate for a second. To me, it feels like this is Nintendo foreshadowing the launch of its next console, where it seems that even if that console has Joy-Cons, they’ll likely be larger (to go with that rumoured larger display), and much like it did with the Wii U, Nintendo will want you to be able to use your old Joy-Con controllers because you’ve likely got at least two, but you won’t be able to charge them without an accessory like this, as they won’t fit on the new console.

So far, it’s been confirmed for release in Japan and Europe, but I’d be shocked if this didn’t release in the US and Australia as well. Here’s the official product description:

“You can easily charge the Joy-Con at any time without having to attach it to the Nintendo Switch console. This is recommended for those who have multiple Joy-Cons, such as when you want to charge the number of Joy-Cons for everyone to play games such as the “Mario Party” series or “Nintendo Switch Sports” together, or when you want to charge Joy-Cons that you are not using while playing in portable mode. It can also charge the “Family Computer Controller” for Nintendo Switch.”
