Samsung’s Anti-Glare OLED TV Headlines An Improved 2024 TV Range

Improvements!

Samsung unveiled its 2024 TV range early this week, and whilst there aren’t major changes to the lineup, there are a good amount of improvements across the board with big TVs, AI processors and that incredible new anti-glare OLED display all proving good value.

THE NEW ANTI-GLARE SAMSUNG OLED TV

I’ve screamed it time and time again that the Samsung S95C is the best TV that I’ve ever owned. The colours are vibrant, it still retains the brightness from the NEO QLED range, the contrast is fantastic, and features such as the Samsung One Connect box just elevate the whole experience.

I loved it so much to the point that I couldn’t foresee Samsung doing anything major that’d make me want to upgrade, but then they went and announced the S95D, which has a brighter display but more importantly has the first anti-glare display in any OLED TV, and I was blown away seeing it in person.

A lot of Aussie households haven’t opted for OLEDs due to brighter than usual rooms and highly reflective displays coupled with those inky blacks that are perfect for reflections, but this does away with that worry. A lot of people were concerned that the anti-glare display would take away from those perfect blacks, and at first sight, it maybe does make the impact a little less, but after a minute or two, you can’t notice a difference in brightness or contrast.

Samsung had placed a simulated window with a plant to show how the S95C reflected these items whilst the S95D was able to diffuse the reflection. This was obviously more evidence in darker scenes, and I’m keen to get more time with this in my space as often when I film gameplay on my S95C (like the footage below), I do get the occasional bit of glare.

AI TECHNOLOGY ACROSS THE BOARD

If there was one reoccurring theme throughout the whole 2024 TV range it was that AI processing is here to provide improvements both on the video and audio front. The NEO QLED 8K flagship TV has a new NQ8 AI Gen3 processor which is said to deliver twice of the performance of its predecessor.

This is used for 8K AI Upscaling Pro which is said to make 1080p and 4K content look better than ever before, and there’s a bunch of new modes including AI Auto Game Mode which is set to automatically change settings for a better gaming experience.

If you’re a big gamer, the flagship 8K 900D can also do 4K at 240hz with VRR, so you’re getting PC monitor like performance on a big screen.

BIG TVS ARE HERE TO STAY

Samsung announced 98-inch TVs in three different types. You’ve got the 98-inch 4K QN90D NEO QLED Mini LED, the 98-inch 4K QLED LED TV and the 98-inch Crystal 4K TV as well and these range from $6,755 AUD to $12,999 and obviously the impact is immediate.

This is especially true on the QN90D which is one of the brightest TVs on the market, and paired with that 98-inch size is honestly eye watering with how big and bright it is. Last year, TVs maxed out at 85-inches, so this must have performed well for Samsung to bring in

THE MUSIC FRAME IS A CLEVER ADDITION

Just as much as I love my Samsung OLED TV, I also have a Frame in my bedroom which gets compliments every time somebody covers over. For people who don’t want the most high-end of TV, The Frame is a great option as it doubles as a photo frame when turned off, and looks absolutely stunning.

Samsung has leaned into this technology with the Music Frame which is essentially a speaker that you can put your own artwork into. It can also be paired with Samsung TVs (with five total speakers able to be paired with each-other) using Q-Symphony technology.

Whilst I absolutely love the design of it, I do wish that it had a matte display like The Frame to show the artwork of the current song that you’re playing, but maybe down the track.

I’ll have some more in-depth thoughts on Samsung’s 2024 TV range as the weeks and months unfold, but I’m really keen to see how that S95C goes in traditional Aussie households.
