It feels like every subscription has had a price increase over the last few months and there’s another one to add to that list. It’s been announced that YouTube Premium will get a hefty price increase as on your next bill.
The new prices are $17 AUD per month for a single plan or $33 AUD per month for a family plan. For those that have signed up recently, this is a jump from $14 to $17 AUD per month although for most people, they’d still be on a cheaper $12 AUD monthly plan so this marks a $5 monthly increase.
For those on the family plan, they were either paying $23 per month or $18 per month which marks up to an $15 per month increase which is quite the price jump.
NEW YOUTUBE PREMIUM AUSTRALIAN PRICES
- Individual – $16.99 AUD per month
- Family – $32.99 AUD per month
This change comes after YouTube cracked down on ad-blockers as obviously YouTube Premium allows you to skip ads, get a higher bitrate, download videos and also watch PIP on mobile devices.
Some users have been given a three month grace period, whilst others will see it come into effect from the next bill.
The email sent out reads: “Thank you for being a YouTube Premium member. We hope you are enjoying your YouTube Premium benefits, including ad-free and downloadable videos, background play, and uninterrupted access to over 100 million songs with the YouTube Music app.
To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to A$16.99 /month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
